Remembering the life of Josie B. Schenck..
The Funeral Service for Josie B. Schenck, age 86, of Albert Lea, will be held
at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 17, 2004, at the First Lutheran Church in
Albert Lea. Pastor John Holt will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before the service at the church.
Josie died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea.
Josie Beatrice Schenck was born June 16, 1918, to Ole and Christina
(Olson) Pederson in Murray County, Minnesota. She was baptized at the
Ellsborough Lutheran Church near Ruthton, MN. She was confirmed in the
17th class of the church March 29, 1931, along with her brother Casper.
The family farm was just down the road from the church, and as a young
person, she enjoyed summer Bible School and singing in church with her
sisters.
On November 29, 1944, she was united in marriage to Floyd Schenck in California, where he was stationed in the Navy. The couple made their home in Albert Lea,
living on Third Street for many years before moving to Shady Oaks Apartments
in 1989. She had been at the Good Samaritan Center since June 2, 2004.
Josie was a kind, fun, and loving mother and grandmother to her children,
grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed doing word puzzles, music,
family gatherings, and going for a ride and stopping for pie and coffee. Before
her body and mind started to fail her, she like to bake for her family,
especially lemon pies and chocolate cakes. Even as she dealt with the
frustrations of a failing body, and mind, attending church continued to be one
of the highlights of her life.
Survivors include her daughter Janice and her husband Larry Lestrud of
Albert Lea, and sons Vincent and his wife Gloria Schenck of Faribault, and
Marlin Schenck of Minneapolis; grandchildren: Kent and his wife Lisa
Lestrud, Sandy and her husband David Nelson, Dan and his wife JoDee Lestrud,
Monica Dotterweich, Amy and her husband John Hope, Sarah Schenck and her fiancAsh Jack Joubert, and Ruth Schenck and her fiancAsh Jeff Bankers; great grandchildren: Jakob Sprandel, Hunter
and Kaleigh Lestrud, Zach and Katelyn Nelson, Curi, Kaled and Mattie Lestrud,
Hannah Dotterweich and Kevin Katelynn and Kayla Hope; sisters-in-law ElDora
Pederson of Granite Falls and Gen Schenck of Marshall, and
Nieces, nephews and cousins.
Josie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Floyd, in 1996; brothers
Herman, Casper(who died in a barn fire as a child), Casper K. and
Omer Pederson and sisters Olivia Andresen, Serene Pederson, Esther Miller and
Carrie Peterson.
