Joseph Shaunce

Joseph Paul Shaunce, age 65, of Albert Lea, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, St. John’s Lutheran Community, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. 

Born on May 10, 1959, on a family farm outside of Glenville, MN, Joseph was a son of the late Lloyd and Marion (Butler) Shaunce. 

Joseph graduated from Glenville High School where he not only showed his dedication in academics but also displayed his talents playing the trombone and wrestling. His formative years instilled in him a spirit of perseverance and creativity that he carried throughout his life. Joseph worked diligently in various roles, including at the former Club 90 in Alden, the Standard Truck Stop in Albert Lea, and Larry's Mobile Station in Glenville. 

Joseph found joy in the simple pleasures of life — cruising through town while listening to Party Line, reading the Freeborn County Shopper, and indulging his sweet tooth, typically accompanied by a half-finished bottle of Mountain Dew. He treasured the moments spent with family, particularly with his beloved niece and nephew, with whom he shared countless laughter-filled afternoons playing card games.

Joseph was a man of determination and independence, often embodying a spirit of generosity that touched the lives of those who knew him. His unwavering stubbornness was a testament to his character, reflecting a deep-rooted individuality that was both admired and cherished by friends and family alike. 

Joseph is survived by his sister, Katherine Depoppe; brother, Russell (Karen) Shaunce; niece and nephew, Lori and Travis Shaunce; a great-niece, Teagan; beloved friends, Ryan Williamson, Chuck Dempewolf, and Rick and Rod Olson; several extended family members, and countless friends. 

In addition to his parents, Lloyd and Marion Shaunce, Joseph was preceded in death by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will host a celebration of life service from 1:00 - 3:00PM on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the Glenville City Hall.
