Albert Lea

Jolynn Sue (Kestner) Johnson, a beloved wife, mother, and cherished member of the community, peacefully departed this world on December 21, 2023, in Wells, MN, at Parkview Care Center.

A native of Austin, MN, Jolynn was born on March 31, 1949, to her parents, Albert and Leona (Bohn) Kestner. Jolynn would go on to graduate from Austin High School and wed Robert “Bob” Johnson on June 17, 1967. Together they welcomed three children, Jody, Jake, and Ellie.

Jolynn embarked on a career as a civil servant in Freeborn County, where she faithfully served for over 20 years. Her dedication and commitment made a lasting impact on the community she loved.

Beyond her professional achievements, Jolynn was a woman of many passions. She found solace in quilting, creating beautiful works of art that she lovingly shared with her family and friends. Her skill and creativity brought comfort to many, and her quilts will forever remain cherished heirlooms.

In her leisure time, Jolynn enjoyed beading, collecting Beanie Babies, as well as exploring antique stores. A lover of the outdoors, Jolynn enjoyed camping and fishing. However, her greatest pleasure came from spending precious moments with her adored grandchildren, creating lifelong memories full of love and laughter.

Jolynn's unwavering faith was an integral part of her life. As a devoted member of the Assembly of God Church in Albert Lea, she actively participated in the choir, lending her voice to praise and worship. She dedicated her time to serving with the women's group, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. Additionally, Jolynn found fulfillment in volunteering at Ruby's Pantry, extending her compassion and care to those in need.

Jolynn is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Doree Ames and Leanne Bowlby; and brother, Alan (Buck) Kestner.

Left to cherish Jolynn’s memory are her beloved husband of 56 years, Bob; children, Jody (Daron) Newman, Jake (Kelly) Johnson, & Ellie Callahan; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and brother, Kim Kestner.

A funeral service will be held for Jolynn at the Assembly of God Church in Albert Lea on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ryan Quigley officiating. The family will welcome guests at a visitation one hour before service at the church. A luncheon will be held following the service.
