A memorial service for John Van Riper will be held at 2 PM Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Round Prairie Lutheran Church near Albert Lea. Reverend Kent Otterman will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church.
Carroll "John" Van Riper, age 88, died Monday October 26, 2015 at Albert Lea Medical Center. He was born on May 16, 1927 to Gladys (Wilson) and James Van Riper in Albert Lea, Minnesota. On June 26, 1949 he married Irene A. Anfinson at the Methodist Church in Albert Lea. Together they made their home in Albert Lea until moving to rural Glenville in 1967. John was a mechanic all his life, working at Wilson & Co. and Farmstead Foods.
Some of John's favorite activities include snowmobiling, hunting, taking trips in his motor home, camping, working with horses, and Friday night bowling. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife, Irene; children, Carol (Bob) Hahn, Pam (Butch) Lande, Roni (Joan) Van Riper, Robin (Todd) Schmidt, Nancy (Gordon) Kragness; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brother, Warren Van Riper; sisters, Reedie Jacobs, Pat (Bob) Fjelbroten, and Joan (Tennis) Loverink.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Ernie Heilman, James Van Riper; brothers, Rip, Pud, Jimmy, Kenny, and Joe; sisters, Helen Bev, and Sis.
