Funeral services for JoAnn Nesje will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Bonnerup Funeral Service, 2210 East Main, Albert Lea, with a visitation one hour prior. Reverend Erica Cunningham will officiate. Interment will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery, Kiester, Minnesota, at a later date.
JoAnn Marie Nesje, age 81, passed away peacefully November 3, 2017 at her home in Albert Lea. JoAnn was born on March 2, 1936 to parents Adrian M. and Izabelle Margaret (Passer) Kauffmann in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
JoAnn married Selmer Joseph Nesje on March 12, 1954 in Wells, Minnesota. To this union, nine children were born. JoAnn loved spending time with her family. She was a clerk and manager of the Municipal Liquor Store in Kiester, MN for 33 years.
JoAnn was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Albert Lea and a member of United Fund. She participated in bowling league for many years and always loved going dancing at The Bubble.
In her free time, JoAnn enjoyed watching Twins games, going out shopping or to the bank to “buy cash”, and getting mani-pedis with her daughters. She loved telling stories with great detail, reading books, and working on wordsearch and crossword puzzles. She looked forward to the holiday season, getting to watch Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel, and inviting extra people over so that no one was alone for the holidays. She was dearly loved and will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Selmer J. Nesje; daughter, Joyce Stack; parents, Adrian and Margaret Kauffmann; and son-in-law, Marly Albers.
Survivors include JoAnn’s children, Sandra (Randy) Carlsen of Elysian, MN, Christina Albers of Alden, MN, Vicky (Jeff) Dobberstein of Bloomington, MN, Steven Nesje of Kiester, MN, Lisa (Mike) Larson of Bloomington, MN, Sarah Peak of Albert Lea, MN, John (Kari) Nesje of Alden, MN, Harry (Suzanne) Nesje of Dickinson, ND; sisters-in-law, Clara Satre of Wells, MN and Margaret Nesje of Lake Mills, IA; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
