Memorial Services for Jesse R. Jimenez will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, October 14, at Church of St. Theodore, Albert Lea. Father Timothy Reker and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by Albert Lea Veteran's Organizations. Private interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester, MN. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. and one hour before the service at the church.
Mr. Jimenez died on Tuesday, October 8th at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester. Mr. Jimenez was born August 29, 1935 in Hollandale, Minnesota. He attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parochial School in Easton, Minnesota and Wells High School, Wells, Minnesota. As a youngster he was a member of the Wells-Easton Boxing Club and participated in Golden Gloves. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in May 1954 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Airman 1st Class in November 1957. He was a member of the 9th Air Force boxing team while stationed at Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, South Carolina. On October 25, 1958, he married Josephine Gallo of
Mason City, Iowa, at Church of St. Theodore, Albert Lea, Minnesota. They moved to Tallahassee, Florida where he attended Lively Technical College majoring in Accounting and was employed with Florida Times Union Publishing Company. In 1965, he and his family returned to Albert Lea. Mr. Jimenez and his wife owned and operated the Quik-Stop Drive-In. In February 1981, the restaurant was sold and he became an insurance agent with Minnesota AAA. He transferred to Rochester, Minnesota in January 1984 and retired in September 1998. While in Albert Lea, Mr. Jimenez was a member of the Knights of Columbus serving as Faithful Navigator and Grand Knight, Elks, Eagles, Cloverleaf Lions, River Trails Girl Scout Council Board, Human Rights Commission, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and the American G.I. Forum. He was also a member of the Moose Club in Austin, Minnesota. In Rochester he attended Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was president of the Diversity Council, member of the Criminal Justice Forum, American Legion Post #92,
American Legion Honor Guard, 40+8 Voiture #327, Commander for Amvets, Minnesota Teacher of Color Scholarship Program Advisory Board, Mayo Foundation Institutional Review Board, Mayor's Community Response Team and Senior Citizens Center. Mr. Jimenez was a coach of the Albert Lea Boxing Team and served as Board member of Silver Lake Boxing Team in Rochester. He enjoyed dancing, taking care of his lawn and attending sporting events. Survivors include his wife, Jo; a son Jeff of Albert Lea; three daughters, Jody (Tim) Bangert of Rochester; Jackie (John) Abrego of Albert Lea; Julie Jimenez (Kevin
Coles) of Rochester; eight grandchildren : Jason and Jacob Abrego, Adam and April Bangert, Josie, Jalen, Riley and Quincy Jimenez six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred (Maria) Jimenez, John (Mary) Jimenez; eight sisters, Teresa Hernandez, Kathleen (Paul) DeBoer, Victoria Westeng, Sara(Steve) Messmore, Mary (Conde) Miranda, Beatriz (Willie) Rauen, Dolores (Ken) Messmore, Lois Holgin and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and one great grandson. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Oak Park Place in Albert Lea and
Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester for the wonderful care they took of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. In lieu of flowers memorials suggested to Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.
