Funeral services for Jerry Marquardt will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea. Reverend Kent Otterman will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Military Honors will be accorded by the Freeborn County Veteran's Organizations. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery near Sheffield, Iowa.
Jerry Clarence Marquardt, age 82, passed away at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea, MN on Friday, January 22, 2016. Jerry was born on June 15, 1933 to Otto and Fannie (Dannen) Marquardt in Franklin County, Iowa. He was raised near Swaledale, Iowa where he also attended school. He married AnnaMae Schwierjohann in Mason City on July 26, 1954. Together, they raised six children.
Jerry has lived in Chapin, Iowa; Zumbrota, Minn.; Meriden, Minn.; Owatonna, Minn.; and Glenville, Minn. He spent most of his working life driving truck, holding jobs with Allied Van Lines & Medi-Van as well as driving grain trucks for farmers during harvest.
As an Army veteran, he was involved in the American Legion in Glenville for many years. In his free time, Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, polka music and dancing. He also loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Those left to cherish Jerry's memory include his six children, Melvin Marquardt of Glenville, MN, Myron Marquardt (Florentina) of Yuma, AZ, Dale Marquardt of Albert Lea, MN, Katherine Marquardt Hinzmann (Randy) of Zumbrota, MN, Patricia Marquardt of Owatonna, MN, Janice Marquardt of Owatonna, MN; grandchildren, Melissa Schultz, Jeremiah Schultz (Roseann), Angela Marquardt, Christopher Marquardt, and Breanna Marquardt; step-grandchildren, Christopher Hinzmann and Amanda Hinzmann (Desire Ako);
great-grandchildren, Grant Schultz and Mirielle Ako; siblings, Helen (George) Feil and Rosella Staub; sisters-in-law, Mary Marquardt and Nadine Reiher; brothers-in-law, Edward Schwierjohann (Norene) and Clarence Schwierjohann (Karnella); as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Fannie Marquardt; wife, AnnaMae Marquardt; brother, William Marquardt; and sister, Bette Evenson.
