Jason was born May 21, 1968 in Waseca, Minnesota to Michael and Susan (Peterson) McDonough. He graduated from New Richland-Hartland High School in 1986 and went on to study aviation at Mankato State University. He was a lifetime resident of New Richland. Jason began his career flying commuter airplane for Great Lakes Airlines and also doing some agricultural crop dusting. He furthered his training to include helicopter flying which was his true passion. A tragic accident in 1997 left his body paralyzed from the waist down and temporarily ended his flying career. With great perseverance and help from many good friends, and the entire New Richland community, he successfully regained his helicopter license and started his own crop dusting business. He overcame
many obstacles, not only physical, but also bureaucratic in his efforts to be recredentialed
by the Federal Aviation Administration. He became the very first paraplegic commercial helicopter pilot worldwide. He tackled each new problem in his path with a level of
determination and courage that he was an inspiration to anyone regardless of their limitations. Jason most enjoyed being with good friends, family and his beloved sidekick
Casey.
