Janice Christena Thompson passed away peacefully at St. John's in Albert Lea on Saturday, January 10, 2015. She was 73 years old. Janice was born on December 9, 1941 to Frieda and Duane Mehus in Clarion, IA.
Janice graduated from Glenville High School in 1960. Jan remembers… "After graduation I lived with Mavis in Minneapolis. Soon, Janet Hagerud moved in with us, along with three other girls. I attended and graduated from McConnell Airline School, but I couldn't get a job as a flight attendant because I was only 18 and couldn't serve alcohol. So, I went to work for Honeywell. I worked with switchboards, mail, secretarial tasks, etc. until I got married!"
In 1962, Janice was married to Loren Thompson in St. Louis Park, MN. "I met Loren at a roller rink. He was attending Brown's Institute for radio announcing. His first job was in Tomahawk, WI., so we moved there. Our son, Steven, was born in 1963. Later we moved to Brainerd, MN where Loren was a sports announcer. I went to work for J.C. Penny Company and did a lot of modeling for advertising in the paper. I was in a lot of style shows. We were there for 17 years, until Loren died in 1981." Janice was a very active member in the Brainerd Assemblies of God Church for many years.
In 1984, Janice moved to Florida to be near her son, Steven. She stayed with Penny's and worked at the Coastline Mall in Naples, FL. About 5 years ago, Janice moved into St. John's in Albert Lea.
In her free time, Janice enjoyed creating ceramics and doing crafts. She was in charge of setting up many craft shows. She also enjoyed baking cookies and being around her favorite animals: cats, dogs, and horses.
She is survived by her son, Steven of Farmington; brother, Harold (Kathleen) Mehus of Glenville; and many relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Loren Thompson and her parents, Frieda and Duane Mehus.
