Janet Ruth Lauer, age 83, passed away on February 15, 2018 at her home in Alden, Minnesota after a brief struggle with cancer. She was born in Hebron, Indiana, the daughter of Floyd and Anne Wahl. Janet graduated from Hebron High School in 1951. She married John Lauer of Kouts, Indiana, on January 24th, 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. John preceded her in death in 2016. Married for 63 years, they lived on the family farm while raising their eight children. In 1976 they moved to Iowa and in 2007 retired in Alden, Minnesota. Janet’s deep faith was the foundation of her joy and generosity. She shared her energy and compassion as a Certified Nursing Assistant for many years and enjoyed reading, embroidery, and most of all the family gatherings.
Janet will be greatly missed by her family: Theresa (Bill) Hefron of Garden, MI, Mary (George) Layton of Jupiter, FL, John (Katherine) Lauer of Sioux Falls, SD, Susan (Bruce) Olson of Lamberton, MN, Donna Nellis of Spirit Lake, IA, Rita (Terry) Reder of Valparaiso, IN, Martha (Jeff) Mulholland of Alden, MN, and Mark (Niki) Lauer of Littleton, CO. She had 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Janet is survived by her brother, Dr. Michael Wahl of Florida, and her sisters, Jeanne Ziese of Indiana and Barbara Bastin of Indiana.
She was always the person her children could talk to about anything. She was understanding and encouraging, and was the mother and grandmother they needed. She will not be forgotten.
