Jack Johnsrud

Memorial Services for John E. "Jack" Johnsrud, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, May 23, 2011 at the First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. Pastor Dan Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Military Honors will be
accorded by Albert Lea Veteran's Organizations. Visitation with family will be from 5-7 on Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before the service at the church. Jack died on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at St. John's Lutheran Home. He was 84. He was born on September 26, 1926, in Albert Lea, the son of Carlyle C. and Marion F. (Sussex) Johnsrud. Jack attended Albert Lea High School and then entered the military service where he served our country in the US Navy on the USS Randolph aircraft carrier from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was united in marriage to Charlotte Hanson on December 1, 1946, at Hayward Lutheran Church. Jack was a dedicated letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Albert Lea for more than 37 years before retiring. After finishing his daily mail route, he also drove school bus (the Conger route) for many years.
In his retirement, Jack worked part-time for Bill Olson Chevrolet, transporting cars all over the Midwest. He was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, where he had served as an usher.
Jack had served on the Lakewood Cemetery Board, and was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W., and the Elks Club. Jack enjoyed sports, participating in his younger years and later watching his favorite teams. He is survived by his wife Charlotte, three sons: Kimry (Kathleen) Johnsrud of Brookfield, WI, Kevin (Mary) Johnsrud of Plymouth, MN, Tom (Jennifer) Johnsrud of Plainfield, IL grandchildren: Elizabeth Johnsrud of Wauwatosa, WI, and her fiance John Devins, Monica Johnsrud of New York City, NY, Kyle and Ryan Johnsrud of Plymouth, MN, Peter Johnsrud of Plainfield, IL and Amanda Shook, also of Plainfield, IL; brother's-in-law and sister's-in-law: Donna (Dale) Heilman of Albert Lea and Russ (Pat) Hanson of Hastings, MN, special cousins Margie Effley of Albert Lea and Lorraine Pritchard of St. Louis, MO, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jack will be remembered for his hard work ethic and his generous, positive spirit.
