Obituary for Irene Aird Kobernus
The funeral service for Irene Aird Kobernus will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Friedrich Funeral Home Chapel in New Richland, MN. The Reverend Pamela Jensen will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the chapel.
Irene died at her home in Owatonna on Wednesday, March 30, 2005. She was 89 years old.
Irene was born in Orchard, Iowa on May 28, 1915, the daughter of William M. and Lydia Ann (Whitman) Aird. She graduated from Floyd, Iowa High School.
On March 18, 1939 Irene was united in marriage with Francis Kobernus. They started farming in Iowa and later settled on a farm outside of New Richland in 1954. They were members of the First Congregational Church of New Richland where Irene was active with Ladies Aid and Unit.
Irene had been a 4-H Leader for many years, belonged to card clubs and enjoyed playing Bingo. She was also a member of the Waseca Eagles.
Irene is survived by three children: Sharon Halverson of Owatonna, MN, Nancy Bratton of Owatonna, MN and Bill Kobernus of Minneapolis, MN; one grandson, David Bratton of Sacramento, CA; three sisters: Dorothy Raskob of St. Michael, MN, Jean Clarke of Eden Prairie, MN and Mary Eckhoff of Charles City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis; son, Bob Kobernus; granddaughter, Angela Halverson; sister, Lois Merton; brother, John Aird.
