A Celebration of Life service for Irene Catlin will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Thorne Crest Retirement Community (1201 Garfield Ave) in Albert Lea. Chaplain Todd Walsh will officiate. Interment will be in the Alden Cemetery at a later date.
Irene F. Catlin, of Albert Lea died on March 15, 2017 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She was 92 years old. Irene was born May 27, 1924 to parents Christian and Alma (Madsen) Ottesen in Alden, Minnesota. She was raised in Alden and graduated from Alden High School. Irene continued her schooling at the Mankato State Teachers College and taught at a local one room schoolhouse.
On December 17, 1955 Irene married Lawrence Catlin at Redeemer Lutheran in Alden, Minnesota. They relocated to Rockford, Illinois where Irene was a substitute teacher and later became a banker at Alpine State Bank until retirement. Irene's greatest joys in life were spending time with her family and celebrating her children and grandchildren's achievements.
Her surviving family members include her children, Ann (Michael) Markegard and Chris (Penny) Catlin; grandchildren, Jennifer (Marcus) Krings and their two sons, Mason and Owen, Adam (Paige) Markegard, David Catlin, and Elizabeth (Andy) Showalter; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence, and her siblings.
