Hubert died after a short struggle with cancer on Friday, July 17, 2009 at the age of 86. He was born on March 29, 1923, in Carrothers , Ohio , the son of Joseph F. and Estella E. Lust. The family moved to Minnesota and his childhood years were spent in this area. After graduating from what Hube jokingly referred to as the “University” of Matawan he went into the C.C.C. at age 14. He then returned to the Matawan area living with Jack Crumb and then Harvey Crumb and doing custom farm work. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August of 1944 and served in the front lines of the Pacific theater. When two of his brothers, also serving in WWII died, Hube was brought back to complete his service in the United States before being discharged in November of 1945. On July 14, 1949, he married Irene Chicos at All Saints Catholic Church. They made their home in Matawan where he managed the Standard Lumber yard for a short time before becoming the manager of Standard Lumber in New Richland and moving to New Richland . He served in this capacity for more than 40 years before retiring in 1985.

After retiring, Hube built himself a woodwork shop. It was here that his passion came to life. He made furniture, built sheds and handcrafted many beautiful things for family and friends.

Hube was a member of the American Legion for more than 60 years, having served a term as commander. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church where he actively volunteered in many capacities, including serving as cemetery sexton for more than 18 years.

In addition to spending time visiting with friends and playing cards, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and anything that kept him in the great outdoors. Hube had an inquisitive mind and learning was a lifelong journey for him. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Irene, four children: Sister Jeanne Marie Lust O.S.B. of St. Joseph, MN, Katherine Lust of Minneapolis, MN, Gary Lust of New Richland, Lisa Lust of Plymouth, MN and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Walter Morton, Virgil Lust, Freeman Lust, William Lust, David Lust and a sister Oleta (Joanne Hagstrom). Hubert had a very generous, fun loving spirit and he will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
