Funeral Services for Howard Darrell Attig of rural Twin Lakes, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 20, at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea, MN. The Reverend Kurt Farrell will officiate. Interment will be in St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before the service at the church. Howard died surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 16, 2018. He was 81. He was born on December 5, 1936, in Northwood, Iowa, the son of Ernest W. and Iris L. (Baldridge) Attig. Howard grew up on a farm near Twin Lakes, MN. In 1959 he married Marlene Nelson, on June 30, 1973 he married Imogene (Schwickerath) and they made their home on a small farm near Twin Lakes. He worked for Forrie Claussen Excavating and then for the City of Albert Lea Street Department as a heavy equipment operator. He retired from the city in 1993 after 31 years, leaving behind a lot of snow plow and other pranks and stories. His other full time job was co-owner with Virgil Anderson of A & A Tree Service, which later became A & D Tree Service with Tim Donahue. After retiring from the city, he farmed land and raised feeder cattle on a small acreage. He had exceptional mechanical abilities and was always the “go to” guy when something needed to be fixed as he always had the “know how “ and the tools to do the job. Howard enjoyed playing practical jokes, music, dancing, playing cards and having coffee with his buddies. He had been a member of St. James Catholic Church, Twin Lakes, and later St. Theodore Catholic Church. Howard is survived by his wife Imogene, his children Brett Attig, Marlon (Wanda) Attig, Kim (David) Moen, Jason (Sarah)Attig, Mark (Casie) Attig, Janel (Robert) Heideman all of Albert Lea, grandchildren: Amy, Bobbie, Matthew, Ehrich, Dan, Kris, Jordan, Kayla, Austin, Wyatt, Izzy, Ava, Presley, River, Chase and Cash; great grandchildren: Makenzie, Mason, Lexi, Layla, Lila, Willow and Zane; brother Lowell (Kathy) Attig of Twin Lakes, MN, sister Cheryl (Dennis) Lien of Albert Lea; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Coletta (Dan) Geerts, of New Hampton, IA, Imelda Schmitt of West Union, IA, Jane Schwickerath of Waseca, MN, Joe (Rose Ann) Schwickerath of Alta Vista, IA, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Iris Attig, father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Rose Schwickerath, daughter-in-law Laura Attig, brother Lyle Attig and his wife Caroline, sisters Eva and her husband Don Hanson, and Carolyn Thompson, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Gerald and Marilyn Schwickerath, Elaine Schwickerath, Denis Schwickerath, and Norma and Warren Tuttle.
