Howard Ashcraft

Memorial Services for Howard Glenn Ashcraft, of Albert Lea, will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Albert Lea, Minnesota.Howard died on Friday, April 12, 2013 at Thorne Crest Retirement Center Health Care Wing,
Albert Lea. He was 94. Howard was born in Moores Hill, Indiana on March 4, 1919, the son of Glendon L. and August (Windhorst) Ashcraft. He was a graduate of Aurora High School, Aurora, Indiana. He was baptized and confirmed in First Evangelical United Church of Christ, Aurora, Indiana. During WWII, Howard served in the U.S. Army infantry from August, 1941 to October, 1945 and attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He worked as a cattle buyer for Wilson & Company for 30 years, retiring in 1980. While in France with the U.S. Army, Howard met the love of his life Fran Walsh. On June 9, 1951, they were united in marriage in Albert Lea, MN. They were members of
First Presbyterian Church where Howard had been an active member and served as Elder. Following his retirement Howard did refinishing and restoring of furniture for many people in the Albert Lea area. They will have a lasting memory of him by the fine work that he did. He also enjoyed gardening and for many years supplied his friends with vegetables
that he grew. He was a member of the Mason's Lodge, Shrine Club-ALEA, American Legion, and V.F.W.
Howard is survived by one brother, Robert (Marilyn) Ashcraft of Milan, Indiana; niece, nephews and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Fran in 2004; one brother, Clayton
(Regina) Ashcraft;one sister, Verna "Mickie" (Virgil) Heller. Howard will be greatly missed by his family and many friends, especially his Park Avenue friends. The family extends sincere thanks to the staff at Thorne Crest for the wonderful care they provided to Howard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to First Presbyterian Church or Thorne Crest Retirement Center. Blessed be his memory.
