Herman Myre

Herman was born in Forest City, IA, the son of Helmer and Ethel (Trail) Myre on February 21, 1916. He also lived on a farm in Geneva, MN before moving to Albert Lea in the 1920?s. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1934. He served his country as a Captain in the US Army during WWII. After being wounded in France, he received a Purple Heart. Herman was married to Irene A. Ingvaldson on February 27, 1945 at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. Herman was a member of First Lutheran Church and had been head usher for many years.



After WWII, Herman owned a hardware store with his brother-in-law, Wilfred Knudtson. He later became sole owner of the business which was Myre Paint and Hardware Store on Broadway. He later began working in the real estate business as a salesman and in the 1960?s became a broker. He continued in the real estate business until retirement in his late 70?s.

Herman was a member of the Elks, VFW, American Legion, and was inducted into the Freeborn County Softball Hall of Fame. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, hunting, through his entire life. Herman was an avid Twins and Viking fan. In his spare time he enjoyed latch hooking and making ship models.



Herman is survived by his wife, Irene of Albert Lea, MN; children: Dr. Steve Myre and wife, Susan of Cincinnati, OH, Nancy Cummins, RN of Albert Lea, MN; 5 grandchildren: Nicole Johnson and husband, Nate of Albert Lea, MN, Jarrod Jensen of Minneapolis, MN, Janelle and husband, Cory Vagt of Dodge Center, MN, Beth Myre of Cincinnati, OH, Laura Myre of Cincinnati, OH; 2 great grandchildren: Ahnika Johnson and Brendan Vagt who loved there ?Grandpa Great?; brother: Chuck Myre and wife, Jane of Richfield, MN; sister: Ruby Knudtson of Albert Lea, MN; sisters and brothers-in-law: Donna and husband, Art Ludtke, Norma Ingvaldson, Jennelly and husband Bob Groe, Karen and husband, Tom Hovde; many nieces and nephews.



Herman was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Wilfred Knudtson and Elwood Ingvaldson.
