Obituary for Helen Margaret Splett



The funeral service for Helen Margaret Splett will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, February 7, 2005 at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea, MN. The Reverend Robert Schneider will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center, Iowa. Visitation will from 2-5 PM Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, with a prayer service at 4:30 PM, and one hour before the service at the church.



Helen died on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at St. John?s Hospital, Maplewood, MN. She was 91 years old.



Helen was born in Blue Earth, MN on November 11, 1913, the daughter of Frank and Viola (Kirby) Drake. She attended Blue Earth High School and University of Minnesota School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN.



On January 5, 1938 Helen was united in marriage with Emil J. Splett in Blue Earth, MN. Together they owned and operated a filing station and cafAsh in Stevens, Iowa. They farmed near Walters, MN from 1946 - 1956 and near Hayward, MN from 1956 ? 1985. They moved into Albert Lea in 1985. They were members of St. Theodore Catholic Church since 1946 where Helen had been active in CCW, Hayward Guild and the Catholic School.



Helen had worked as a nurse in Blue Earth Hospital and also done home nursing. She loved nature, trees and forests, raising flowers and spending time at her family?s lake cabin up north. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends, neighbors and family, and baking cookies. She was a people person and liked meeting friends for coffee.



Helen is survived by her son, Philip Splett and his wife, Patricia of White Bear Lake, MN; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren: James Splett and his wife, Julie and their children, Maxwell and Elizabeth of Minneapolis, MN, Michael Splett and his wife, Jennifer and their children, Lauren and Ethan of Mahtomedi, MN; one sister, Frances Hickle of Blue Earth, MN; one brother-in-law, John Splitt of Blooming Prairie, MN; nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Viola, husband Emil; son, Gary Francis; brother, Richard Drake.
