Harold Wayne

April 2, 1930 — July 18, 2017

Harold Eugene Wayne of Geneva, Minnesota passed away on July 18, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Harold, a lover of all sports, storyteller and candy man to all children will be missed my many.
Harold, son of Arthur and Elma Wayne, was born April 2, 1930 in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
He attended college at St. Olaf in Northfield and the University of Minnesota. After college he worked for the Star Tribune newspaper in Minneapolis, MN and played on their amateur sports team. He met his wife Patricia Mattix there and they married in 1953 and returned to Geneva where they raised five children; Toni (Kirth) Smith, Wabasha; Laura Rogers, Colorado Springs; Bradley (Lynette) Wayne, Hastings; Todd (Mary) Wayne, Woodbury; Paul (Jennifer) Wayne, Blooming Prairie.
He lived all his life in Geneva, working with his father owning and operating Wayne Construction. He served on the Geneva Volunteer Fire Department, Geneva Cemetery Board, St. Johns Nursing Home Board of Directors and was inducted into the Freeborn County Softball Hall of Fame.
Harold will be deeply missed by his eight grandchildren, Lindsay (Brian) Dick, Stewartville; Matt (Erin) Wayne, Hastings; Chris (Christy) Wayne, Hastings; Kelsey (Matt) Duncomb, Cottage Grove; Kaeli (Derek) Goodnature, Woodbury; Korbin (Louie) Grossman, Woodbury; Abby and Ian Wayne, Blooming Prairie and his 13 great grandchildren; sister Fern Murphy, nieces, nephew and cousins.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and brother in law Robert Murphy.
There will be a memorial service at Community Lutheran Church in Geneva, Minnesota on Saturday, July 22 at 11:00 AM. There will be visitation with the family from 10:00 to 11:00 at the church. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to Community Lutheran Church, Multiple Sclerosis Society or Geneva Cemetery.
