Grace (94) passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2007, at the New Richland Care Center.
Grace was born on January 14, 1913, to John and Delia Gumbusky of Owatonna. She was the youngest of three daughters. Grace graduated from Owatonna High School in 1930 and was employed at Bonded Petroleum in Owatonna as a bookkeeper before marrying Nathaniel (Tannie) Ohnstad on August 26, 1937. They had two children, Janice (Ohnstad) Anderson of Andover and an infant son, Mark G. Ohnstad.
Upon moving to the Ohnstad family farm, Grace worked at the Aronson Chevrolet Garage in Ellendale and at both the Ellendale State Bank and Security State bank for over 26 years, for a total of 40 years serving the public. Her meticulous attention to detail allowed the bank to do a single posting for many years.
Her expertise with numbers also served her well as secretary/treasurer of the First Lutheran Ladies Aid for many years, as well as auditor for the congregation.
Besides belonging to the Lois/Mary Circle, Grace also sang in the choir. She was a member of the Oak Street Club and the Ellendale Business and Professional Women.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lillian James of Waseca and Fern Wolesky of Owatonna; infant son, Mark; two nieces, Barbara Cramer and Geraldine Strouf; and husband Tannie of 66 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan Anderson of Andover, son-in-law, Jim Anderson and granddaughter, Jodi Anderson of Andover; niece, Wanda Roesler (Eagan) and her family; niece, Sharon Hagen (Medford) and her family; nephew-in-law, Burt Cramer (Owatonna) and his family.
Grace was an avid bingo player and had many ?bingo friends? in both Owatonna and Albert Lea. Some would even call her ?lucky?, but we are the lucky ones for having her in our lives. Most of all, Grace was known for her generous spirit that put other people first, her many stories, and a smile that would light up a room.
She will be greatly missed and remembered.
