Glen LeRoy Routh, 94 died on November 14 at the New Richland Care Center with his family at his side. He was born July 22, 1914, in Adams County, Iowa to Cyrus and Ollie (Hogankamp) Routh. He moved to rural New Richland with his family in 1921. He graduated from New Richland High School in 1931 and attended one year of normal school training. On November 30, 1935, he married Alma Christine Amundson in Northwood, Iowa. They lived in Byron Township before they moved to Minneapolis where he drove truck. During WW II, he worked with contractors to build a military base in Newfoundland. They moved back to Byron Township to farm in 1948. He retired from farming in 1988, but continued an interest in the farm. After Alma died in 2000, Glen moved to Owatonna where he resided until May 2008 when he moved to the New Richland Care Center. He was a former member of the Byron Township board, the New Richland-Hartland School Board and the Minnesota Waxy Corn Growers Board of Directors. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed following NRHEG athletic events, the U of M Gophers, the Vikings and the Twins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma; one grandson, Patrick Arnfelt; three brothers, Alden, Rex and Floyd and sister-in-law, Thelma Schmelke. Survivors include seven children: Warren (Susan) Routh of Waseca, Gail (Paul) Arnfelt of Owatonna, Fay (Marty) Gora of Onalaska, WI, JoAnn (Steven) Eaton of Northfield, Allan Routh of Owatonna, Mark (Brenda) Routh of New Richland, Kristine Fischer of Waseca, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one brother, Ray Routh of New Richland, three sisters, Leah (Harlan) Berg of New Richland, Mary Walley of Albuquerque, NM, Jean (Keith) Wilkinson of Red Wing, numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Memorials preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, New Richland or donor's choice. The funeral service for Glen will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 18, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. The Rev. Paul Andree will officiate. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, rural New Richland. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Monday at the Friedrich Funeral Home, New Richland, and one hour before services at the church.
