A memorial service for George Edward Boettcher, 82, of Albert Lea, will be held Friday, August 5, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel. Pastors Ed Komoszewski and Chuck Brooks of Sojourners Church will officiate. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour prior to the memorial service. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery.
George died in his home on Monday, August 1, 2011, following a six-year battle with myelofibrosis and a three-week bout with acute leukemia. George was born in Wells on May 8, 1929, the son of Clifford and Virginia Garver. He attended public school and lived in Wells and Glenville before settling in Albert for 65 years. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Jorgenson on May 15, 1948 at the First Lutheran Church parsonage. George was employed by Super Structures of Albert Lea for 15 years and Streator of Albert Lea for 35 years. He was a long-time member of the AFL-CIO. George was a committed family man who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren (who affectionately called him "Papa Great"). George is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Albert Lea; children, Georgia (John) Komoszewski of Albert Lea, Dana (Joan) Boettcher of Prior Like, and Kevin (Cheryl) Boettcher of Eagan; grandchildren, Ed (Shelley) Komoszewski, Jim (Christen) Komoszewski, Brea (Brad) Gabriel, Brandon Boettcher, Travis Boettcher, and Tyler Boettcher; great grandchildren; Caleb Komoszewski, Eliana Komoszewski, Kaitlyn Komoszewski, Emily Komoszewski, Caden Gabriel, and Kaia Gabriel; sister-in-law, Helen Allen; brother-in-law, Chet (Vanessa) Jorgenson; and several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bruce Boettcher; and sister, Donna Nelson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to Sojourners Church, Crossroads Community Hospice, or Humane Society of Freeborn County.
