Gary Trebil, age 79, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025 peacefully at home surrounded by family in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Known for his kindness, warm smile, and big heart, Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
Born on December 21, 1945 in Mason City, IA, he was the third of six children to John and Elaine (Borchardt) Trebil. Growing up in Plymouth, IA, he was active in Boy Scouts, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. A testament to his strong work ethic, character, and leadership. He also served our country in the United States Army from 1965 until honorably discharged in 1967.
On July 12, 1969, he married his soul mate, Cynthia Trebil, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Plymouth, IA. It was a blessed ceremony that most remember fondly due to the extreme temperatures that day. Together they shared 52 years of loving marriage, though first met in kindergarten in 1951. Their union brought forth a loving family that included two children, Nathan and Anne.
Gary had a successful 53-year career in the furniture industry, including time at McGregors, Fobair Furniture, Rooms and Rest, and Brick Furniture.
A life-long Green Bay Packers fan, Gary was an avid golfer and member of both the Clarks Grove and Green Lea Men's Leagues as well as a member of the American Legion. He also enjoyed playing softball, cards, fishing, and traveling. Gary truly treasured spending time with family, especially with his grandchildren. Later in life, he became a devoted walker, sometimes walking Fountain Lake 2-3 times a day. The friends he made in the walking community became very near and dear to him. He was also grateful for his fantastic neighbors throughout the years along with visits from the affectionately named Garage Girls.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Nate (Sara) Trebil and Anne (David) Bachem; grandchildren Saylor, Madelyn, and Leo; siblings Barb (Mel) Einertson, Steve (Sue) Trebil, and Randee (LeAnne) Trebil, as well as many other extended family members and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife Cynde; parents, John and Elaine Trebil; parents-in-law, James and Dorothy Friedline; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Jerry Harper and Judith and Keith Johanson.
