Franklin Steele

Funeral services for Franklin C. Steele of Albert Lea, MN, will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 30, 2010, at the Concordia Lutheran Church of Pickerel Lake. The Reverend Jeffery Laeger-Hagemeister will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4 until 7 at the Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery.
Franklin died Monday, December 27, 2010 at St Johns Lutheran Home in Albert Lea, MN. He was 91 years of age.
Franklin Carroll Steele was born May 31, 1919, to Frank G. and Clara (Toenges) Steele. He was a life-long resident of Freeborn County. He was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church of Pickerel Lake and attended school in Conger, MN.

Franklin was married to Edna A. Mellum on February 11, 1943 in Glenville, MN. This union was blessed with five children. They farmed together near Conger and moved to Albert Lea in 1996. Franklin also worked at Streaters in Albert Lea for 17 years retiring in 1983. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and driving his ponies in parades throughout the local area.

Franklin is survived by children: Franklin Jr. (Carolyn) Steele of Wentworth, SD, Sonja (Dr. Earl) Sherburne of Sioux Falls, SD, Althea Tenold of Little Falls, MN, and Galen of Sioux Falls, SD ; grandchildren: Michael (Jamie) Steele of Tea, SD, Erik (Kaia) Sherburne and Kirk Sherburne of Roseville, MN, Ryan (Trish) Tenold of Little Falls, MN, Darren Tenold of Little Falls, MN, Melinda (Pat) O'Connor of Sioux City, IA, and Dr. John (Emily) Steele of Leavenworth, KS, 8 great-grandchildren, sister –in-law and brother-in-law Evelyn and Sparky Gore of Mason City, IA, sister-in-law Willma Mellum of Sorona, WI., and a special niece Kaye Larson Miller of Albert Lea, MN.

Franklin is preceded in death by his parents, wife Edna in July of 2005, son Nealin, infant grandson, brother Dean and sister Ardith Larson.

Franklin will be remembered for his sense of humor and the love for his children.
