The funeral service for Florence Myrtle Thompson will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, MN. The Reverend Dan Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM Monday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before the service at the church.
Florence died on March 18, 2005 at Albert Lea Medical Center. She was 88 years old.
Florence was born on April 29, 1916 in Moosejaw Saskatchawan, Canada, the daughter of Frederick and Mary (Josephine Lee) Kleven. She was baptized in a Lutheran church in Moosejaw.
In 1921, at the age of 5, she with her mother and siblings returned to Glenville, MN area and her family lived with her maternal grandmother, Bertha Lee on a farm 3 miles west of Glenville where she grew up.
Florence moved to Albert Lea as a young lady, and worked at the American Gas Co. She married Gordon LeRoy Berglund and had one son, Gordon W. born November 11, 1937.
In 1946, Florence married James G. Thompson who worked with Wilson Meat Packing Co. until his retirement. He passed away in 1981.
Florence is survived by her sister, Mabel Wadding of Albert Lea and many nephews, nieces, grand and great grandnephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband; son, Gordon; two sisters, Evelyn Anderson and Esther Miller; three brothers: Edwin, Leonard of an illness at the age of eleven , and Chester who was killed in the Normandy invasion of WWII.
Florence and her husband, Jim were avid fishermen and enjoyed vacationing at many different fishing locations and enjoyed the people that they would meet.
Florence lived at St. Johns Lutheran Home in Albert Lea for the last seven years and has enjoyed meeting new friends and she appreciated the care givers who took an interest in her personally and professionally.
