The memorial service for Evelyn S. Olson of St. John?s Lutheran Home will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at St. John?s Lutheran Home Chapel, Albert Lea, Minnesota. Pastor Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister will officiate. Interment will be in Woodland Hills Cemetery, Mankato, Minnesota. Visitation with her family will be one hour before the service on Tuesday.
Evelyn died Friday, February 25, 2005, at St. John?s Lutheran Home. She was 93 years old.
Evelyn was born April 4, 1911, in Madelia, Minnesota to Henry P. and Josephine (Johnson) Strom. She grew up at Madelia, Minnesota and graduated from Madelia High School and business school and attended the University of Minnesota. Evelyn married Harry P. Olson on August 4, 1934, in Minneapolis. She has resided at Madelia, Minneapolis, Fairmont, Mankato and Albert Lea. Evelyn was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church of Albert Lea and a former member for 50 years at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mankato, Minnesota, where she was active in the Women?s Groups. She volunteered in many church and community activities. Evelyn worked as a secretary for insurance companies, belonged to PEO, Study Club, Bridge Club and was a Campfire Girl leader.
Evelyn enjoyed doing needle work, especially Hardanger and knitting.
Evelyn is survived by her three children: Janice Gawtry and her husband, Bruce, of Apple Valley, Minnesota; Beth Spande and her husband, Richard, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; Rolf Olson and his wife, Nancy, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; special friend: Addie Spain of Knutson Place, Albert Lea; numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Josephine; husband , Harry; son Robert in infancy; two brothers and one sister.
