Evelyn Johnson

Memorial services for Evelyn May (Jones) Johnson of Albert Lea, MN will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Ascension Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Boorsma will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 4 PM until 7 PM at the Bonnerup Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Evelyn died Sunday afternoon, September 18, 2011 at her home in Albert Lea surrounded by her family. Evelyn (Evie) was born April 10, 1928 in Avon, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Charles (Chas) and Hattie (Simms) Jones. She attended public school in Plainview, Nebraska. On June 15, 1956, she was joined in marriage to Robert (Red) J. Johnson. Evelyn managed a clothing store in St. James, MN for several years and then was employed as a Dental Assistant for over 30 years, first with Dr. Steiler and then with Dr. Hoffman. After retiring as a Dental Assistant, she worked as a clerk at Fisher's Jewelry Store for 14 years. Evelyn was an active member of the Ascension Lutheran Church and enjoyed bowling on teams in St. James and Albert Lea. In her free time, she could be found painting wood crafts, Rosemauling, reading, or working crossword puzzles.
Evelyn loved her family deeply and with immeasurable joy, and she embraced her many friends with that same love. Evelyn is survived by her husband Robert (Red) Johnson of Albert Lea, MN and their children: Terry (Brenda Moore) Hornstra of Deer River, MN and their children Heidie (Matt) O'Neill and Hollie Hornstra (Rob Daniels); Sandra (Larry) Petersen of Albert Lea, MN and their children Steven (Anne) Petersen and Andrew (Keli) Petersen; Bonnie (Terry) Adams of Albert Lea, MN and their children Angela (Jon) Whitcomb and Chad Holton; Scott (Patti) Hornstra of Cincinnati, OH, and their children Sam and Kathleen Hornstra; Jodell Brunson of Plymouth, MA and her daughter Molly Jo Brunson; Robyn (Bill) Zandi of Franklin, TN and their children Josh Hibray, Britni Hibray, Michael, Mark and Marisa Zandi; and Robert (Bob) Johnson, Jr. of Albert Lea, MN who was also her special care giver. Survivors also include 9 great grandchildren and special friends Rosemary (Cookie) Dowling, Larry Fisher and their families. Surviving siblings include: Mary Deurmier, Charles Jones and Darlene Dress. Sister-in-law Dorothy Jones and brother-in-law Paul Dahlenberg; in-laws, Ken Oman, Dan Gilmore, Henry Johnson, Richard (Peanuts) and Debby Johnson, Roger and Donna Johnson, Kenneth (Skipper) and Evie Johnson, Larry and Sandra Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Lucille (Toots) Jess Deurmier, Ethel (Ralf) French, Bessie Dahlenberg, Elmer Jones, brothers-in-law Elmer Deurmier and Ted Dress, mother-and father-in-law Henry and Clara Johnson and special son-in-law Geofrey Brunson. Memorials to Crossroads Community Hospice are preferred in lieu of flowers.
