Funeral Services for Emil C. Lykken of Albert Lea, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016
at John's Lutheran Chapel, Albert Lea. The Reverend Janet White will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at St. John's Lutheran Chapel. Military Honors will be accorded by Albert Lea Veteran's Organizations. Bonnerup Funeral Service is assisting the family. Emil died on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Albert Lea. He was 92. Emil was born in December 21, 1923, in Kloten, North Dakota, the son of Andrew and Louise (Knutson)
Lykken. He grew up on the family farm. Emil graduated from Mayville College and attended the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army from December 1942- December 1945, serving in Europe from Normandy to Ardennes. Upon his discharge he continued his education and became a teacher in the Minneapolis public schools. He met Helen Schreiber, his wife, while in Minneapolis. After retirement they moved to Albert Lea for their retirement years. Helen preceded Emil in death in 2015. Emil is survived by many nephews and nieces from both sides.
