Funeral services for Eleanor A. Iverson will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Oakland Lutheran Church, rural Albert Lea. Visitation will take place from 3 – 6 PM on Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Oakland Lutheran Cemetery.
Eleanor passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin, MN. She was 85 years old.
Eleanor A. (Johnson) Iverson was born on October 3, 1932 in Blooming Prairie, MN to Ivan and Beatrice (Underdahl) Johnson. She grew up in Moscow Township, and attended and graduated from Austin High School. She would go on to attend Teachers Normal Training, and would start her career as an educator after that. She would go on to obtain her master’s degree in Education. She worked at a few rural area schools, Glenville Elementary, and then worked for the Albert Lea School District, finishing her career at Lakeview Elementary School. She would continue to teach as a long term substitute following her retirement.
On May 7, 1955, she was united in marriage to Melvin Iverson at the Moscow Lutheran Church. To this union, the couple was blessed with four children: Suzanne, Steve, Sharon, and Scott. The couple would raise their family on the farm in rural Albert Lea.
Eleanor was an active member at Oakland Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, was involved in choir, and enjoyed quilting for the church. In her free time, Eleanor enjoyed sewing, collecting ceramic dolls, and was very involved in mission work. She was active in gathering “Christmas Shoe Boxes” and sending them to underprivileged children around the world. Eleanor can be described as a loving, strong willed person who loved her family very deeply.
She is preceded in death by both parents, Ivan and Beatrice.
She will be deeply missed by her husband of 62 years, Melvin; children, Suzanne (John) Chrz, Steve (Theresa) Iverson, Sharon (Agathe Candy) Iverson, and Scott (Shana) Iverson; grandchildren, Jared, Adam, Ashley, Mikkel, Jami, Kristine, Elisha, Amanda, Isaiah, and Cameron; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Delores (Jerry) Hemingway and Duane (Shirley) Johnson; a sister in-law, Viola Christianson; as well as many other loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
