Eleanor Berg

Eleanor was born September 20, 1909 near Matawan, Minnesota to Andrew and Carrie (Noftsker) Anderson. She attended country school in District 25, at Matawan, and graduated from New Richland High School, the class of 1927. Eleanor had been a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed and was an active member of her church circle and the ladies aide. Eleanor married Morris Berg on February 24, 1930 at Trinity Lutheran Church. After their marriage they began farming and lived on their farm located on the Freeborn and Waseca County line for 64 years. After the death of her husband, Morris, on September 30, 1994 she moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota. Eleanor enjoyed reading, cooking, baking and crocheting. Eleanor and Morris also enjoyed spending winters in Arizona. In 2005 Eleanor took pride in writing Remembering the Past, the story of the Anderson family history.



Eleanor was the proud mother of four daughters: LaVonne Lee and her husband Orland of Hartland, Minnesota, Connie Smidt of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Alice Brecke and her husband Gary of Buckeye, Arizona, and Harriet Johannsen (deceased), formerly of Freeborn, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren: Robert Lee, Patty Anderson, Debbie Gaskill, Sherri Wessels, Cindy Imm, Michael Johannson, Greg Johannson, Tom Brecke and Jon Brecke; 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; 3 brothers: George Anderson of New Richland, Walter Anderson of Freeborn, Minnesota and Russell Anderson of Matawan, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.



Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents: Andrew and Carrie Anderson; husband: Morris Berg; daughter: Harriet Johannsen; grandson: Mark Smidt; great grandson: David Lee; brothers: Harold and Arnold Anderson; sister: Laura Hanson and sons-in-law: Ole Smidt and Ray Johannson.



Eleanor was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her family is thankful for her Christian example.
