Funeral Services for Dorothy Eleanor Slette, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Reverend John Holt will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church. Bonnerup Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements. Dorothy passed on peacefully in the powerful presence of her Loving Saviour in her home Thursday evening. Dorothy E. Slette was born March 26, 1916, the 2nd child of Charles and Rhoda (Halvorson) Winjum, and baptized Dorothy Eleanor Winjum at First Lutheran Church of Albert Lea. Her early years of childhood in Eagle Bend, Minnesota and then in Albert Lea were source of fond memories. She and her siblings grew up on a farm near Hammer Country School, where she went to school. She attended First Lutheran Church Sunday School. She was confirmed in1930 at First Lutheran. Graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1934. Following her dreams, she attended Brady & Rogers Beauty School in Minneapolis. Her work lasted for 10 years in an uptown hair salon. She was Figure Skating in Loring Park with her cousin when she met her soulmate, WW2 Sgt Curtis K Slette. While he was home on furlough, The Sacrament of their Marriage was blessed by Rev Melford Knutson on 9 September 1942 at The First Lutheran Church Parish House. A 3rd generation, lifetime member of First Lutheran Church she was a Greeter, Secretary to the Primary Sunday School Department, active in the Mission Circle #20 and FLCW. Throughout her life in Albert Lea she enjoyed various community associations such as: Brownie and Girls Scout Leader, Home Extension, the Freemond Madson Auxiliary to Post No 447 VFW, Dorothy also worked in the service of Loaves and Fishes at St Theodore's Catholic Church. She fully loved her faithful God and devoted family and served others with a happy heart to His Glory. She was employed 1972-1985 at St John's Lutheran Home a hostess in the Dining Room, with Kitchen Staff. With dedication, after retirement she remained as a St John's Volunteer until her 82nd birthday. Dorothy Slette is survived by daughters Pamela Slette of Albert Lea, Sandy [Chipper] Parr, grand-daughters Suzanne [Martin] Morris, Kari [Scott] Stevens, grandson Jesse Curtis Parr, great-grandsons Osian, Landon and Urijah, and great-granddaughter Kaia of Juneau, Alaska. Sisters-in-Law LaRayne Slette and Nellie Rasmussen of Albert Lea. Nieces Carolyn "Kelly" [John] Schultz of Albert Lea, Joanne [Earl] Jensen of Apple Valley, MN, Judy [Bob] Brown of Belle Plaine, MN and Barbara Henderson, Burnsville, MN, nephews Bill [Sue] Whiteaker of Fairfax, SC and Edward L Dusek of Boston, MA, Alan Rasmussen of Quebec, Canada, and Charles [Cindi] Slette of Bloomington, MN and many great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, were her beloved husband Curtis Slette, her beloved parents, Rhoda and Charles N Winjum and beloved sisters Mildred Dusek and Lila Whiteaker. In-laws Cora and Corneal Slette, Sister-in-law Lorraine Porter, brothers-in-law Eddie Dusek, Frank Whiteaker, Lloyd Slette, Norman Slette and Everett Rasmussen.
