Dorothy Lucille (Stevens) Hamberg was born in the countryside of southern Minnesota on May 9th, 1917 and passed away at the age of 95. She died at the home of her daughter, Barbara Hamberg, in Albert Lea, Minnesota on Tuesday, August 21st, 2012. On June 23rd, 1937, she married the love of her life, Melferd Hamberg. They resided in Albert Lea most of their lives, and raised three children together: Patricia, Barbara, and Steven. Dorothy was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway, Moose Lodge, and the Eagles. Dorothy loved dancing, playing games with friends and family, and having people over for coffee in the afternoon. Reading books and baking were also some of her favorite activities. Her kindness and openness will be remembered forever by those who had the privilege to meet her. She relished the opportunity to make people happy and she had a genuine love of life. She was preceded in death by her husband Melferd Hamberg; her parents Roy and Bessie (Fessenden) Stevens Sr.; her sisters Ruth (Harry) Matthies, Kitty (Ole) Stephenson, and Betty Larsen; her brothers Clyde Stevens, Clifford Stevens, and Herschel (RuthAnn) Stevens; her nephew Leslie (Gerry) Matthies; brothers-in-law Norvel (Violet) Hamberg, and Clifford (Edna) Hamberg. Dorothy is survived by her children Patricia Bagstad, Barbara Hamberg, and Steven (Darice) Hamberg; her former son-in-law Duane C. Olson; her grandchildren Michael (Sue) Bagstad, Cheri Bagstad, Lisa (Ken) Cheever, Jeffrey (Stephanie) Bagstad, Jonathan (Tammy) Bagstad, and Danielle Hamberg; great grandchildren Gregory, Emily, Henry, Gwen, Sierra, Jada, Zoe, and Kylie; her brother Roy(Bernice) Stevens Jr.; and her sister-in-law Lorraine (Hamberg) Spillman, along with many nieces and nephews. The visitation and funeral will be held at First Lutheran Church. The visitation is from 1-2 on Saturday, August 25th, 2012 and the funeral service is at 2 p.m. Interment Oakland Cemetery.
