Funeral services for Doris L. Broitzman of Northwood, IA., will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 14, 2004 at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, IA. Pastor Paul Homer will officiate. Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 6 until 8 at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, MN., and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Wanders Rest Cemetery rural Gordonsville, MN.
Doris L. Broitzman was born on August 28, 1925 in Erie, PA., the daughter of Chris and Johanna (Bach) Bonnerup. As a child her family moved to rural Glenville, MN. She was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. She attended school in Glenville and Albert Lea High School. She was employed for a time at the Wilson Co. in Albert Lea.
On September 14, 1947 she was united in marriage to Harold Broitzman at the Salem Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. After their marriage they farmed east of Gordonsville where they raised their family.
She was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church near Myrtle, was a Sunday school teacher and active in the ladies aid. She then became a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.
Doris enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, dancing and in her later years traveling to Texas for the winter. Attending her grandchildren?s activities was a joy to her. Doris and
Harold moved to Northwood, IA June 2000 and entered Lutheran Retirement Home.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Harold Broitzman of Northwood; children: Gary (Paula)Broitzman of Hayward, MN, Barbara Schutz and special friend Harlan Helgeson of Northwood, IA, Karen Frondal of Phoenix, Az, Thomas Broitzman of Glenville, MN, Suzanne (Mark) Senne of Northwood, IA and David Broitzman of Albert lea, MN; grandchildren: Todd (Jody) Broitzman of Hayward, MN, Dean (Lonna) Broitzman of Clarks Grove, MN, Daniel Schutz of Northwood, IA, Jolene Schutz and special friend, Cody Hickle of Northwood, IA, Vicki Solland and special friend, Dave Shaw and Amber Frondal all of Phoenix, AZ, Stephanie Broitzman of Glenville, MN, Jessica and Matthew Lowe of Northwood, IA, Brianna and Ryan Broitzman of Albert Lea, MN, and 7 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Ruby Baumgartner of Aurora, CO, Florence Brzezenski of Albert Lea, MN, Lois (Kenneth) Gayken of Glenville, MN; sisters-in-law: Velma Bonnerup and Maxine Bonnerup of Albert Lea, MN, Mable Perleberg of Glenville, MN, Nadine Broitman of Northwood, IA, Helen Broitzman of Austin, MN; many nieces, nephews as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Esther Falksen, 4 brothers, Charles, Donald, Richard and Norman Bonnerup, 1 granddaughter, Ann Broitzman.
