Donna Horkey

A memorial service for Donna M. Horkey will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the Bonnerup Funeral Chapel, Albert Lea.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Newry Township.

Donna passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Thorne Crest Senior Living Community.  She was 77 years old.

Donna M. (Gruis) Horkey was born on April 21, 1940 to Ernest and Hessie (Anderson) Gruis in Geneva, MN.  She grew up in Geneva.  On December 31, 1957, she was united in marriage to Robert Horkey.  To this union, three children were born.  The family would live in Geneva, Owatonna, Hollandale, and Albert Lea.  Donna was a member of St Mary’s and St. Theodore Catholic Churches.

Donna worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide for the Good Samaritan Society for over twenty years.  She also worked as a Home Health Care Aide for many years.  Donna had a vast collection of Elvis Presley memorabilia.  In her free time, she liked to attend bowling league with her friends and was a very good cook, fudge being her specialty.  Donna loved her family, and cherished every moment she was able to spend with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She always had a positive attitude, but was not afraid to tell you how it is!

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; both parents, Ernest and Hessie; mother and father in-law, Otto and Helen.

Donna is survived by her children, Bernadine (Brad) Graves of Alden, Colleen Schreiber of Albert Lea, and Shelleen (Robert) Harkner of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Jennifer Aarback, Melissa Graves, Donald Graves, Barbara (Jake) Payne, Nicholas (Melissa) Schreiber, an June (Jason) Dickey; great grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Katie, Paradise, Kenny, Marisa, MaKayla, Jeffrey, Jacob, Gisele, Madeline, Jasmine, Julia, LeAnna, Jason, Nathan, and Jessica; siblings, Caroline Abrego, Beverly (Leo) Arygos, and Mary Lou Lardo; a sister in-law, JoAnn Horkey; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
