Remembering the life of Donald A. Borchard...
The Funeral Service for Donald A. Borchard, of New Richland, MN, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Richland. The Reverend Charles Espe will officiate. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. on Monday at Friedrich Funeral Home, New Richland, and one hour before the service at the church.
Donald died on Friday, August 24, at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN. He was 94.
He was born on September 21, 1912, in Morristown, MN, the son of Carl and Erna (Imm) Borchard.
He graduated from Waterville High School in 1929, and as a young man he began helping area farmers. He then joined the CC Camp in Gooseberry Falls where he was the unit truck driver.
He married Hazel J. Strand on June 16, 1948 at the Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage.
Donald began working for his brother Ralph at Borchard Service in New Richland, which he enjoyed for many years, before retiring in 1976. Following his retirement he worked for Scott Routh-Pioneer Seed. At the age of 87, he "officially" retired and he became caretaker for his wife, Hazel, as her health was failing.
Donald's heart was always on the farm and in the country, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and everything outdoors. He was also an avid sports enthusiast, often caught watching one game, listening to another, and grazing the paper for scores, all at the same time.
Donald's father died when he was a young boy and therefore family ties were really important to him. He liked nothing better than being surrounded by family and keeping in touch with all of them via visits and calls.
He also had great compassion for children that were less fortunate than others, it seemed he was always trying to find a way to make a difference.
He is survived by two children: Charles (Linda) Borchard , and Julie Truebenbach both of Shakopee, MN; grandchildren: Trevor (LeAnne) Knutson of Savage, MN, Tracey (Connie) Knutson of Bemidji, MN, Chad (Kate) Knutson of Mpls, MN, Casey (Jenny) Knutson of Shakopee, MN, Melana Knutson of Shakopee, MN, Corey (Lindsai) Truebenbach of Jordan, MN, Eric Truebenbach and Jacob Truebenbach both of Shakopee, MN, great grandchildren: Tyler, Kyla, Kendra, Lauryn, Kaelyn and Mallory Knutson; sisters: Ethel Schwitchenberg of Morristown, MN, Lucille Borchert of Faribault, MN, brother-in-law Lester Strand of Waseca and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel, son-in-law James Truebenbach, brother Ralph Borchard and his wife Ruth, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Ruby and Miles Sorenson, Lydia Strand, Arthur Schwitchenberg and a niece Judy Strand Jacobson.
