Dean died on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the Mayo Clinic Health systems in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Dean Otterson was born on November 11, 1960, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. The only son of Lloyd and Charlene (Lester) Otterson. He graduated from Austin High School in 1979. He married Jolene Beckmann on March 20, 1982, and to this union two children were born, Katie Jo and Nicholas. They started their journey in Clarks Grove, Minnesota, however they moved several times through the years. They made their primary home on a dairy farm in Hartland, Minnesota before recently moving to Albert Lea.
Dean had many different jobs, some of those included; farmstead, dairy farming, diary breeder, insurance representative, and Auto Zone parts manager. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going antique shopping with his wife and dear friend, Sandy Peterson. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings football games and classic western shows. He also loved his daily drives with his beloved dog, Roscoe. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; especially his granddaughter, Aubrey Elmer.
Dean is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jolene; daughter, Katie Jo (Chad) Elmer; son, Nicholas (Arely-Montserrat-Vilchis-Hildago) Otterson; granddaughter, Aubrey Elmer; five sisters, Sharon (Gary) Fisher, Renae (Ron) Thomas, LeAnn (Ralph) Miller, Linda (Mark) Crom, and Lori (Matt) Jordison; mother-in-law, Doris Beckmann; sisters-in-law, Charlene (David) Chevalier, Valerie (Randy) Giles, Kayla (Buddy) Root, and Eileen (Clifford) Borchert; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Best friend Roscoe and grand-dog, Maggie.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Herbert Beckmann; brother-in-law, Randy Brackey; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
