David Smith

Funeral services for David Brent Smith will be held at 10 AM Friday, February 19, 2016 at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, MN. Father Russ Scepaniak will officiate. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 4-7 PM at Bonnerup and again one hour prior to the service Friday. Interment will be in St. Theodore's Catholic Cemetery.

David Brent Smith was born on December 12, 1944 to Gilbert and Vada (Munsell) Smith in McLeansboro, Illinois. He was raised in Mount Vernon, graduating from the Mount Vernon High School in 1962. After graduation, Brent went on to Albert Lea, Minnesota, to work with his dad for a few years at his One-Hour Cleaners company. He then earned a degree at the technical college for Refrigeration. He owned and operated Brent's Refrigeration and Air Conditioning for several years in Albert Lea.

On August 26, 1967, Brent married Faye Brandsoy in Albert Lea. Together, they raised two children.

Brent was a member of the Eagles, Moose, and American Legion. He enjoyed working on cars, restoring old bicycles, watching Judge Judy, gardening, golfing, and going to Diamond Jo's Casino. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and ability to make others laugh.

On Saturday, February 13, 2016 Brent Smith passed away at his home in Albert Lea. He was 71 years old.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Faye Smith; children, Michelle (Andy) Schlagel and Brandon Smith; brothers, Dennis (Judy) Smith and Michael Smith; brothers-and-sisters in-law, Dean Brandsoy, Janet Anderson, Randy (Dorene) Brandsoy, Sharon (Mike) Tronstad, Tim Brandsoy; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Brent was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda Pieh; mother-in-law and father-in-law Eleanor and Harold Brandsoy; brothers-in-law, Dennis Brandsoy and Doug Brandsoy; sister-in-law, Sharon Brandsoy; and his beloved dog, Shelby.
