David Hutchins

Funeral services for David Hutchins will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel, Albert Lea. The Reverend Kent Otterman will officiate. Visitation will take place from 5 – 8 on Friday at Bonnerups, and again one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
David passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center, in Mason City, IA. He was 66 years old.
David Arthur Hutchins was born on March 18, 1950 in Austin, MN to Morgan and Irene (Tews) Hutchins. He attended Albert Lea High School.
On March 18, 1999, he was united in marriage to Joanne (Waller) in Fluvanna, VA. The couple lived in Albert Lea and later Northwood, IA.
As a boy, David loved hanging out at his dads Shell gas station with his brothers and friends. As a young man, he was a member of the Scavengers Car Club. David had an innate talent for all things mechanical as well as design and carpentry. David built dragsters and custom cars. He built and remodeled several homes. David helped design the original building that is now Bonnerup Funeral Service.
David worked for more than 50 years in the auto repair industry. He won many national service awards that included trips to Germany and Hawaii. After his retirement from Motor Inn, he enjoyed working with Mark and Dan at Sanderson Auto. Above all, David loved spending time with his family, especially his daughter and granddaughter.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a brother, Tim Hutchins, a nephew, Grant Edwards; and a mother-in-law, Wilma Waller.
David will be greatly missed by his wife, Joanne; daughter, Heather; granddaughter, Kyra; brothers, Mike (Nancy) Hutchins, Jeff (Angie) Hutchins; sisters, Bonnie Buchanan and Heidi Hutchins; brother and sisters in-law, Terry Hutchins, Donald Waller, and Margaret (Steve) Drahaus; aunts, Ruth Schilling and Delores Schilling; as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
