A memorial service for Darryl Lynn Hanson Sr. will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, in rural Austin. The reverend Lindsay Stolen will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Red Oak Grove Cemetery.
Darryl died Saturday, July 5, 2014 at his home in Vandalia, Ohio. He was born December 16, 1937 in Albert Lea and raised by his grandma in Hollandale. He graduated from Albert Lea High School. Darryl was a member at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, where he served on the council as a trustee in his earlier years. Darryl joined the Air Force for four years and moved to Topeka, KS where he raised a family. He held jobs at Ford Motor Company, Winnebago, and Home Depot, to name a few. He had a love for Lionel model railroad trains, old cars, and antique clocks. His hobbies included traveling, visiting relatives, fishing, and water activities.
Darryl was a hard worker, working until the day he died. He will always be remembered as a man with good character, always wanting to do the right thing. Darryl was proud of his family and they loved him dearly.
He is survived by his children Lori (Les Geller) Hanson of Austin, TX, Darryl II (Tanna) Hanson of Austin, TX, Scott Hanson of Ankeny, IA, and Corey (Michele) Hanson; grandchildren Matthew, Nick, Christapher, Kayla, Christian, Sydney, and Mason; mother of his children and lifelong friend, Susan Hanson; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eileen Severson and Alvin Hanson and grandparents, Maude and Calvin Arthur.
