Darlene Laura Underland

Darlene Laura Underland, 85 of Ellendale, MN passed away peacefully on August 29th, 2023 at her home surrounded by loving family.

Darlene was born December 29th, 1937 to Albert and Laura (Shewe) Goette in Kiester, MN. Albert and Laura moved to rural Hartland which stayed their home for many years. Darlene attended and graduated from New Richland Schools. On December 19 1955, she was married to Richard Underland at St Peter’s Lutheran Church in New Richland, MN.

They made Albert Lea their home in 1955. Richard worked at a Monument business and there their daughter was born. Approximately November 1958 Richard and Darlene moved to Richard’s family home farm place to continue raising potatoes along with some other vegetables.

In 1960, they welcomed their second child a son. The whole family worked together with Darlene working alongside her husband, whenever and for as long as needed. With the same dedication Darlene took pride in caring for her home. Things were always in their place and looking great. She always made sure everyone including herself had what they needed and were cared for.

When the children were younger Dick and Darlene enjoyed in some spare time square dancing and bowling. Later snowmobiling was the fun thing to do, getting together with neighbors exploring the whole area.

Darlene was able to enjoy a few trips with Richard in their motorhome after he retired.

Her Dolly Parton salad and mint salad were always a request for any family gathering. Her strong will and pride in staying home allowed her to live on the farm for her entire life.

Darlene is survived by her daughter, Debbie Nybo; 6 grandchildren, Jennie (Ted) Broske, Alison (Matt) Maas, Candy Ruch, Jeremiah (Michelle) Underland, Cassandra Carter, and Sami Jo Carter; great grandchildren, Quaiden, Ella, Wyatt, Remi, Lola, Odin, Max, Naomi, Bailey, Tanner, Cloey, Kamiah, Bryson, and Maezlyn; brother, Vernon (Alice) Goette; sisters-in-law, Carol Underland Roberts, Laurie Goette, and Barb Underland;; brother-in-law; Paul (Kathy) Underland; and many nieces and nephews.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in 1996; son, Daniel in 2007; parents, Albert and Laura Goette; brothers, Donald (Tina) Goette, Loren “Buddy” Goette, and Marvin “Pat”(Marcella) Goette; brothers-in-law; Laverne Roberts, Aldeen (Ingrid) Underland, and Gary Underland.; additionally several nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 8, 2023 at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale, MN.  Pastor Kyle Smith will officiate. Darlene’s family will greet guests at a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at First Lutheran Cemetery in Ellendale, MN.
