A memorial service for Daniel Schulz will be held at 6 PM on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. The Reverend David Efflandt will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. A burial will take place at Bear Lake Cemetery at 10 AM on Saturday, with the Freeborn County Veteran's Organizations performing military honors.
Daniel passed away at the Good Samaritan Society on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. He was 69 years old.
Daniel G. Schulz was born on January 15, 1947 to Nathaniel and Opal (Weedman) Schulz in Mobridge, SD. Dan was baptized and confirmed at Bear Lake Lutheran Church. He was raised and attended school in Emmons, MN. After his junior year of high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served proudly for 4 years until his honorable discharge. He returned to Emmons for a brief while before moving to Colorado where he spent several years. He would later return to the area. Dan was married for a short time, but the couple later divorced.
Dan worked construction and roofing around the area for a number of years. He would later begin working at Cargill, and continued working there until his retirement. Daniel was a member of the American Legion. His claim to fame was being the #7 all-time leader for the "streak for the cash" on ESPN, where he was acknowledged by ESPN for his accomplishment! Aside from spending numerous hours researching for "streak for the cash," Dan also enjoyed watching sports, being outdoors, and watching horror movies and shows. His favorite show was "The Walking Dead." Dan can be described as a jokester, even joking with his family until the very end. Dan loved spending time with his family, and reconnecting with his relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Earl; great-niece, McKenzie; and great-great-nephews, Jack and Oliver Williamson.
Daniel is survived by his sisters, Darlene Moller, Rita Schulz, and Cynthia Schulz; a son, Dustin; a grandson, Braiden; nieces and nephews, Darla (Doyle Langfald) Robbins, DeAnna (Mark Krugerud) Moller, Melinda (Craig) Fischer, Terrance Schulz, Brandon Schulz, Ryan Schulz, and Chris Lorton; great-nieces and nephews, Holly, Trice (Trevor) Amber (Chuck) Heather, Melanie (Jordan), Jaden, Jordan, Zoie, CJ (Jackie), Mike, and Blake; as well as numerous great-great-nieces and nephews who thought of Dan as more of a grandpa then an uncle; also many other loving relatives and friends.
