The funeral service for Daniel Porter Erickson will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 27, 2011
at Trinity Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. Pastor Curtis Zieske will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea Area Veterans Group.
Daniel died Monday, May 23, 2011 at Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 88 years old.
Daniel was born in Wilmer, MN on February 14, 1923, the son of Iver and Mable (Anderson) Erickson.
He attended public schools in Jackson, MN. He was baptized in 1923 and Confirmed in 1935 and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Daniel served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Daniel had lived in Wilmer and Jackson, MN before moving to Albert Lea in 1950.Daniel was married to Ethel (Lorraine) Melvin on October 7, 1950 in Fairmont, MN. He had worked for Wilson & Co. for 34 years before retiring in 1982.
Daniel enjoyed gardening, flowers, watching birds, camping with family, woodworking, puzzles, fishing and watching all sports. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were a very important part of his life and he cherished the time spend with them.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 60 years, E. Lorraine Erickson of Albert Lea, MN; Children: Terry Erickson of Albert Lea, MN, Karen (Russ) Erickson of Glenville, MN, Kathy (David) Register of Albert Lea, MN; daughter-in-law, Sheila Erickson of Muscatine, IA; Grandchildren: Wade (Karen) Erickson, Jennifer (Tom) Habana, Tara (Mike) Register, Tiffany (Tyler) Register, Lori Shaunce; Great Grandchildren: Tyler, Noah and Jordan Habana, Alyssa and Sara Erickson, Taylor and Miya Larsen; sister: Ethel Boone of Scottsdale, AZ; Sister-in-law: Ardys Erickson of Fairmont, MN; Brothers-in-law, Ewald Schnitzmeier of Fairmont, MN and Charles "Bud" (Marilyn) Melvin of Lafarge, WI., and many nieces and nephews.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, son, Douglas; brother, Einar Erickson, sisters, Vivian Schnitzmeier and Myrtle Walling; 2 brothers and 1 sister in childhood.
