Dale Potter

May 11, 1936 — July 19, 2024

Dale Eugene Potter, 88, died on July 19, 2024 at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea. Dale was born on May 11, 1936 in Pine River, Minnesota, but grew up in Brainerd, Minnesota. Dale graduated from Brainerd High School in 1954. While in high school, he loved music and played the trumpet in the band. His favorite music was country music and you would hear it playing anytime you visited him. His favorite was Johnny Cash.

Dale worked many years at Anderson Brother's Construction, and then worked for the Brainerd School District for 29 years as a custodian at Washing Junior High until retiring in 1997. After retirement, he kept himself busy with many home projects, and loved playing in his gardens. He experienced raising chickens until he no longer was able to have them in the city due to the roosters waking up the neighbors. He turned his attention to raising rabbits because they were much quieter. Dale enjoyed traveling. His most memorable trips were the trips to Alaska during the summer to visit his sister Evelyn. He also loved watching sports on TV, but mainly the Twins, the Vikings, and Nascar. Dale moved to Albert Lea in 2017 so he could live closer to his daughter Susie.

Dale was blessed with two daughters, Sherie and Susie. He was very proud of them and talked about them all the time. His face always lit up when he was asked about his two daughters.

Dale is survived by his two daughters Sherie Ham, her husband Bob Ham, of Winchester, KY, and Susie Knutson, her husband Chuck Knutson, of Albert Lea; two grandchildren, Dorothy Kelly and husband Paul of Roanoke, VA, and Ellen Oakey of Richmond, VA; one great-grandchild, Hunter Kelly;14 nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Naomi Potter (Fultz), sisters Evelyn Rogers, Bernice Lamont, Shirley Hunt, and Roberta Leonard, and two nephews, Michael Leonard and Kenny Christopher.

A very special thanks to Oak Park Place, Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea, and St. Croix Hospice for their care and compassion. Thank you so much to all of you, especially the nursing staff on station 3 at Good Sam, for taking such good care of Dale during his years in Albert Lea.
