The memorial service for Carol Ann Vander Waal of Albert Lea, MN will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 5, 2004, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. Pastor Curtis Zieske will officiate. Friends may visit with family from 5-7 PM Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before at the church.
Carol died on Thursday, January 1, 2004 at home peacefully with her husband at her side after 8 years with Alzheimers Disease. She was 63 years old.
Carol was born on May 25, 1940 in Wessington, SD, the daughter of William and Alice (McBride) O'Neal. She graduated from Wessington High School, and graduated from the two year Huron Business College. Carol was married to John VanderWaal on August 7, 1960 in Huron, SD. Carol had lived in Wessington Springs, Watertown, SD , Ft. Dodge, IA, Gaylord, MN. and in 1977 moved to Albert Lea, MN.
Carol was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was in the choir and a youth leader at Gaylord, MN and active in the ladies church groups. She had been a bank teller, legal secretary, and then worked for 18 years at Albert Lea Medical Center in Patient Accounts. She had been a 4-H leader, played volleyball, was in a card club and an elementary room mother at Lakeview Elementary. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose Club. Carol enjoyed walking, cross stitching and took part in many sports. She was a daycare provider for grandchild, Bryn Woodside.
Carol is survived by her husband, John of Albert Lea, MN; daughters: Ronalee and husband, Chris Johnsen of Duluth, MN, Roxann Clayton of Chaska, MN, Roberta and husband, Paul Woodside of Albert Lea, MN; grandchildren: Rikki and Ryland Nelson, Storm Johnsen, Courtney and Katrina Belton, Benjamin and Bryn Woodside; Brothers and Sister: Lyle and wife, Lavonne O'Neal of Andover, MN, Darold and wife, Jean O'Neal of Rapid City, SD, Margaret and husband, Bernie Kemper of Aitkin, MN, Duane and wife, Deb O'Neal of Wessington, SD, Bill and wife, Helen O'Neal of Chapel Hill, NC and many nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to their dear friends, Sandy and Tom Clawson.
