The funeral service for Calvin S. Lyle, age 79, of Oakland, Minnesota will be held at 10:30a.m.Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at Oakland Lutheran Church. The Rev. LaDonna Ekern will officiate. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be f rom 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and one hour prior to the service at the church.



Calvin entered eternal life peacefully on September 3, 2005 at his home surrounded by his wife and all four children, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 5, 1925 to William and Gustava Lyle, in the same house where he lived his entire life. He was baptized at Oakland Lutheran Church, and remained a faithful member there. Calvin graduated from Austin High School in 1943 where he was an active member of FFA. He was also an active member of the Oakland 4-H during his youth. He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Peterson on February 11, 1951.



Calvin was a dairy farmer for over 50 years and continued crop and livestock farming up to the time of his death. His love for God, his family, farming and animals was apparent to everyone who knew him. In his younger days, he played the fiddle in a house band and passed on his love of music to his children and grandchildren.



Calvin served as a director for Red Oak Grove Coop Creamery, Mid-America Dairyman, Community Coop Oil Company, Oakland Lutheran Parsonage Board and on the Fairview Cemetery Board. He was a lifelong member of Farm Bureau and recent years joined the Eagles where he enjoyed the music and dancing.



Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Betty Lou: daughters Roberta (Steve) Maley of Waverly, IA, Mary (Tom) Anderson of Billings, MT, Lisa (John) Deyo of Austin, MN, and son, Stuart, of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Alyssa, Kyle, and Ashley Maley, Zach and Luke Anderson, Gabe, Sam, Max, and Abby Deyo; brother Bill (Lucille) of Oakland; brothers-in-law: Milo (Elaine) Peterson of Albert Lea, MN, Dale (Marlene) Peterson of Albert Lea, MN; nieces, nephews and cousins. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents.
