Bob died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 21, 2004, from complications of lung surgery at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, MN surrounded by his family. He was 73 years old.

Bob was born January 4, 1931 in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Casey and Elsie Malepsy. He moved with his family to Albert Lea in 1935. He joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Rochester from 1948-1952. He participated in the Inchon Landing, the beginning of the Korean War.

On July 4, 1953 he married the love of his life, Beverly Joan Springborg. They celebrated their love for 51 years. He and his wife put that love and energy into raising their children; children he was so very proud of. He worked for Sears Roebuck for 33 years as a repairman. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and belonged to the American Legion. He enjoyed bird watching, hunting, and fishing. Just two weeks ago, he took the trip of a lifetime to Alaska, fishing with his two sons and two of his grandsons. He enjoyed game shows and card playing with his buddies. He was well known for his skill of pancake making. For over 10 years he donated his time to help Boy Scouts and various school groups and sport teams earn money at Sunday morning pancake breakfasts at the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Bev; son, Stan and his wife, Brenda, their children, Brittany and Cody; son, Chuck and his wife, Jo Ann, their children, Tony and Jessica; daughter, Ann and her husband, Mike Tubbs, their children, Katie and Evan; three brothers: Jim and his wife, JoAnn, Bill and his wife, Lorraine of Albert Lea, MN, Tom and his wife, Clarice of Medford, Oregon; two sisters: Helen and her husband, Nick Cornick of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Virginia Pagliaccio of Fort Pierce, Florida; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers, Stan Malepsy and Joseph Hughes.

For the last two years, Bob fought cancer fearlessly. His courage strengthened all of us. His stoic nature, stubborn Polock, held through to the end. This sudden loss will leave a huge void in the hearts of those who love him.
