Funeral services for Betty Guenther will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. Pastor John Mitchem will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday, May 23 at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and again one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Alden Cemetery.
Betty Ann Guenther, of Alden, died on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Albert Lea Medical Center. She was 82 years old. Betty was born in Northwood, Iowa on January 20, 1935 to parents Edward W. and Ruth L. (Johnson) Walk.
In 1951, Betty met the love of her life, Bob, while working as a carhop at the Albert Lea A&W Rootbeer Drive-In. At the age of 17, Betty married Bob Guenther on September 26, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Alden. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1953.
After working over 30 years at Enderes Tools, Betty retired in 1996 and enjoyed life living on the family farm near Alden. Betty enjoyed entertaining family and friends, listening to country music, and dancing to polka. Over the years, Betty & Bob took in many kids and briefly became their surrogate parents. Betty loved taking family road trips, especially to Branson, Missouri. She also found joy in cooking, growing flowers, canning home-grown fruits and vegetables, attending the Freeborn County Fair and befriending many of the fellow competitors. When the day was done, Betty loved to sit in the dark and meditate.
Betty is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Bob Guenther; son, Daniel Guenther; grandchildren, Kristine (Alex Truman), Dustin Guenther (Julia), Dwight Borland Jr., Jason (Rachel) Guenther; great-granddaughters, Karley, Bella, and Lexi; brothers, Gary Walk, Dean Walk (Jane); and sister, Judy Schultz (Don); as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her son, Timothy Guenther; daughter, Susan Guenther Borland (Dwight Sr.); parents, Edward and Ruth Walk; parents-in-law, Lincoln and Thelma Guenther; sister, Joy Bergstrom (Eslie); brothers, Ronald Sr. (Sheila); David, Larry, and Bruce Walk; sisters-in-law, Gloria Walk and Pat Walk; brother-in-law, Douglas (Charlene) Guenther; nephews, Charles Guenther, Wayne Kosmoski, Ron Walk Jr., Marty Walk, Chris Walk; and nieces, Dauphne Walk and Judy Marie Schultz.
