Barbara Westurn

A celebration of life service for Barbara M. Westurn will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea. The Reverend Dwight Netzer will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Ft. Snelling at a later date.
Barbara passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, May 5, 2017 at her home in Albert Lea. She was 83 years old.
Barbara M. (Borgeson) was born on May 11, 1933 in Hibbing, MN to Milton and Hazel (Holt) Borgeson. She attended and graduated from Hibbing High School. She would go on to attend University of Minnesota where she would obtain her bachelor's degree in Nursing. She went on to work at the Naeve Hospital, now Mayo Clinic, in Albert Lea as a Registered Nurse and also in the kidney dialysis unit and also a Public Health Nurse.
On September 10, 1955, Barbara was united in marriage to Richard Westurn in Hibbing. To this union, four children were born: Steven, Susan, Mary Ann, and John. Barbara would raise her family in Albert Lea.
Barb was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was an active member. In her free time, she enjoyed biking, swimming, reading, and music. Most of all, Barb loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she cherished every moment she spent with them.
She is preceded in death by both parents, Milton and Hazel; and a brother, John Borgeson.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Richard of Albert Lea; children, Steven Westurn of Iowa City, IA, Susan (Jim) Klein of Coon Rapids, MN, Mary Ann (Michael) Reed of Racine, MN and John (Michele) Westurn of Beaver, PA; 7 grandchildren (Matthew, Alyssa, Melanie, Joshua, Kristina, Rachel and Savannah); 4 great-grandchildren (Ethan, Tahlia, Evelyn and Briella); as well as many other relatives and friends.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Albert Lea.
