Funeral services for Barbara June Ganske of Albert Lea, MN, will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 14, 2017 at Bonnerup Funeral Service. Pastor Joyce Shaman will officiate. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4 until 7 PM and one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albert Lea.
Barb died Monday, April 10, 2017 at Oak Park Place with her daughters at her side. She was 85 years of age.
Barb was born January 24, 1932 in Conger, MN, the daughter of John and Edith (Reasoner) Somnis. She attended public school in Conger and Cosmetology school later in life. Barb was united in marriage to Norman (Bill) Ganske on March 2, 1952 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They lived for a short time in Panama while Norman was in the service, and then made their home in Albert Lea.
Barb was an active member of the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a circle member. She was co-owner of the Northside Beauty Salon for many years and was the hairdresser for Bonnerup Funeral Service.
Barb loved gardening and had a green thumb for flowers. She enjoyed canning, reading, dancing and was a wonderful cook. She went on many trips with Four Seasons travel and many friends.
Barb is survived by her daughters Cindy (Wes) Halverson of Albert Lea, MN, Angie (Robert) Richter of Oregon, WI, granddaughters Kristin DeBoer and Andrea (Tim) Hoheisel, great grandchildren Raegen and Ramsey Hoheisel, Brenner and Hudson DeBoer. There was a special friend in her life; Curt Bohonek of Montclair, CA, and one brother Roland (Pat) Somnis of Conger, MN, and sister in law Rosie Somnis of Schroeder, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman in 2004, brothers John, Robert, James and Thomas Somnis, sister Rosella Thompson, sister in infancy Grace Somnis, brother in law Milt Thompson and sisters in law Jean Somnis and Delores Somnis.
