The funeral service for August "Gus" Albert Schumm of Albert Lea, will be 10:30a.m. Monday at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea. Father James Berning will officiate. Interment will be in St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel, 2210 E. Main St., and one hour before the service at the church. Gus died Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Thorne crest Health Care Center. He was 93 years old. Gus was born March 5, 1916 in Spruce Grove Township, Becker County, Minnesota to George Bernard and Amanda Marie (Schmidt) Schumm, where he also grew up. As a young man, he moved to Detroit, Michigan where he worked for Paramount Rubber Company. He also lived in Hysham, Montana and moved to Albert Lea in November 1952, where he owned and operated Northwest Rubber Company. Gus married Ann Judd on February 19, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church, Twin Lakes, Minnesota and St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea. He was very active in the church. Gus belonged to the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, Moose Club and was a social member at the American Legion. Gus enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends. Gus? special love was his wife Ann and he took care of her during her illness. His family was very important to him. Gus is survived by his two daughters: Joan (Randy) Holland of Albert Lea, Minnesota and Cathy Schumm of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; daughter-in-law: Alice Schumm of Waseca, Minnesota; grandchildren: Christie (Ryan) Kroells of Rosemount, Minnesota, Carrie Rocha of Omaha, Nebraska, Christopher Mickelson of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Matthew Mickelson of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Joseph (Sue) Schumm of Bemidji, Minnesota, August H. Schumm of Le Sueur, Minnesota, Shelley Callahan of Bemidji, Minnesota, Dale (Lisa) Holland of Farmington, Minnesota, and Sara Holland of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; one brother-in-law Paul (Frieda) Judd of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Thelma Judd of Fort Smith, Arkansas; nieces, nephews and cousins. Gus is preceded in death by his parents: George and Amanda Schumm; wife: Ann; sons: Dale and George; brothers: Lawrence and Walter; and sister-in-law: Esther. Gus will be deeply missed by loved ones and friends.
